summary:

I am currently working on B-cell immunology in the lab of Dr. James Thomas. We are interested specifically in tolerance issues and are working with Non-Obese Diabetic mice, which are models of human Type I Diabetes. We also have transgenics which express anti-insulin antibodies. Although Type I Diabetes is a T-cell-mediated disease, recent work has shown that B-cells are needed in this model to initiate disease. It is not known how this works, however.

All of these projects have been underway for 6 months or less, and are not yet at the abstract stage, though there are some promising early results.
